North 40 Chophouse

What a surprise to find in North Platte. The food and atmosphere was great. Probably the nicest steakhouse between Denver and Omaha.

The most hospitable restaurant I’ve been to. There food was delicious, the atmosphere was great, and our waitress was so helpful and friendly. 10/10 recommend!

I understand that restaurants are busy, especially with how short staffed everyone is right now, but having to wait nearly an hour to be taken care of, not to mention the time it took to actually get the food, was not our idea of a great anniversary dinner. I regret wasting my time and money and sincerely hope that the service improves soon.

For those of you with fond memories of the Cozad 242 House, you will be ecstatic to know that there exists a tangible link to that brief, but storied restaurant. Indeed, one of the servers is a former 242 House employee, and the General Manager of the North 40 Chophouse, Mark Hammond was a frequent customer there. When 242 House closed, its executive chef briefly worked at the North 40, until his passing. As for the North 40, it is not the casual elegance of 242 House, it is rather informal elegance. The distinction is that it is a touch more upscale in its ambience, while still retaining elements of its origins in the 1930's as a rough and tumble roadhouse. The carved wood wall in the backdrop in the main dining room, while looking to be a recent deco style adornment, is actually original to the conversion from automobile service company to bar and eatery. The interior and exterior are, however, very much brought into the 21st century with its piano bar with a flame wall, and its elegant dining area. Along with atmosphere, a great chop house needs two other critical elements: great food, and great service. Here the North 40 Chop House excels! Desiree Aragon provided our lounge service, and she proved to be solicitous, friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. The dishes we sampled ranged from fresh crab cakes and Faroe Island salmon to local wet aged filet mignon, fingerling potatoes to a flavorful mash. The dinner rolls are baked in house and have a sea salt topping that worked exceedingly well with the main dishes. All entrees are cooked to the diner's expectation and served in a timely fashion. For dessert, my wife and I selected blueberry creme brulee, yum! General Manager Mark Hammond, Front Manager Daniel, and our server, Jennifer Prince, were genuinely interested in our North 40 experience, and offered suggestions, personal stories, and a tour at the end of our meal. Ambience - 9 out of 10 Food - 10 out of 10 Service 10 out of 10 Price 9 out of 10 In summation, while it is true that the town of North Platte, midway between Omaha and Denver, is not what one would consider a 'Destination' rather, it is considered a stopover between these two great metro areas. By contrast, the North 40 Chophouse IS a destination. Even if I lived 100 miles away or more, I would travel to North Platte for the sole purpose of dining at the North 40. However, I am local, and there is a special feature available to me; on occasion, I, and my friends as well, can take advantage of the eclectic bar menu as we chat and keep in touch. The flavors of the bar menu include such fare as crab cakes and tenderloin bites in béarnaise sauce, or locally sourced prime burgers, all affordably priced. Reminiscent of my favorite bygone tapas restaurant, the Mediterranean, in Boulder, Colorado. For me, the North 40 Chophouse ranks as my top restaurant.

Awesome dinner. This place lives up to the name of 'chop house'. My steak was perfectly prepared and all 5 in my party were very impressed with the quality of service and dining. 5 stars!!!

Great service, high quality, thoughtfully combined and well executed food. Solid beer, wine, liquor and cocktail list. Steakhouse-chic decor. Had a fabulous dinner and will definitely return.

North 40’s filet is one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. You should care because, as a proud Nebraska carnivore, I’ve eaten excellent steak from local ranches all my life. I’ve also said “meh” to many a steak from so-called “top” steakhouses in the Midwest and on the East Coast. This is a “must have” steak. Additionally, my lovely lady loved her pasta dish, and the sides were tasty as well. Yes, it’s more expensive than other steakhouses here. But you can taste the difference, and the ambiance and attention to detail is perfect for a special night out. Looking forward to trying the fresh lobster next time.

The steaks and food was excellent. The peach cobbler ice cream had no flavor at all. You would think for $6 for three small scoops it should taste. The service was great! Prices are not cheap. Rob a bank before going! Lol!
