What can I say about V. Mertz that hasn’t already been reviewed? On Friday, January 13th, I had my second visit, and this fine dining establishment is 2 for 2; one of the best dining experiences I’ve had – and that assessment compares to fine dining on both coasts! Our first visit, last July, was for an anniversary (and the V. Mertz staff helped me successfully ‘surprise’ my spouse, who thought I was in Florida). That visit was perfect, and the entire staff hit it out of the ballpark. V. Mertz can be difficult to find on your first visit. It's not signed well on the street, and is located at the back of The Old Market Passage. The Mexican restaurant at the front of the Passage stands out, and can lead you to think you are in the wrong place – you are not. Walk past the Mexican restaurant and you will quickly find V. Mertz. Despite that initial confusion, once you find it, you feel as if you’ve located a secret jewel, a hidden part of Omaha that not even a lot of locals know about. On this visit, it wasn’t the secret that thrilled us though, it was the way the Old Market Passage was lit, with twinkling white Christmas lights leading us to our destination. We arrived on time for our reservation, and our table was immediately available. We began with well made and new, custom drink concoctions with quirky names (such as ‘Trina Is A B*&$#’) started our meal, and ordered a couple of shared appetizers which quickly followed (artisan cheese plate and house charcuterie). These were prepared well, and were presented in a way that made sharing among our group easy. It was difficult keeping it to just two appetizers, they all looked incredible! V. Mertz has excellent menu choices for dinner, we observed several come out to other tables, but honestly, we came for the steak. The restaurant uses American Wagyu beef sourced from the Morgan Ranch, outside of Burwell, Nebraska. After a prior meal at V. Mertz last July, we took a trip to the Morgan Ranch and picked up some Wagyu for home, met the owner, and enjoyed a ride deep into rural Nebraska, but that will be the subject of a different (and highly positive!) review. For our recent meal, though we had ample time to observe other diners choosing items on the menu, we all chose the 6 oz tenderloin. It. Was. Perfect. There are no words that can describe the taste, texture, temperature, presentation other than to say … you won’t be disappointed. The V. Mertz chef, quite simply, presents well prepared and consistent meals that will never disappoint. Its why, despite our own culinary skills at home, we’ll continue to come back. We simply cannot do it as well as the Chef! A truly divine restaurant experience is more than just the meal though, and so we must acknowledge the entire waitstaff, the bartenders – all came together to ensure excellent timing, service, and recommendations. We will be back!

Have been recommended V Mertz several times and told it's an incredible dining experience. Went out the either night for my anniversary, and while it was very good I wouldn't necessarily say I was blown away like I was expecting. Service and atmosphere were great, creme brulee and food presentation were too notch as well. I ordered the lamb dish, and honestly it just seemed like a strange combination of foods. Almost had a cajun / long John silver's vibe with grits and the 'hush puppy' style fried breading; probably not something I'd order again. My girlfriend had the Chicken Roulade, which was cooked perfectly and the table behind us had a giant ribeye that looked and smelled incredible, I found myself wishing I'd ordered that instead.

I’d probably give it more stars if that was possible. If you want an escape from Omaha, actual fresh farm to table thoughtful cruise, and impeccable service. No need to describe what I ordered because they don’t repeat dishes. The image says it all and my wife’s was just as good. Wine was on point.

We chose to go to V. Mertz in downtown Omaha for a fancy dinner to celebrate a special occasion plus our surname is MERTZ, so we had to go. We sat in the cellar where it was dark and cool. It’s a perfect place for a romantic date but not with a party of seven. lol. Regardless, we enjoyed the meal. The menu changes periodically so the menu I post here may differ soon. We started with drinks, Old Fashions, InfringeMINT and Summer Companion along with the Artisan Cheese Plate & House Charcuterie. All amazing flavors and it was plated perfectly. The main course was comprised of four different choices with the Roasted Chicken Ballotine being the most popular selection followed by the Roasted Quail and the Spot Prawn Rissoto and the Colorado Lamb Sausage Duet. The portion sizes are definitely not what typical Americans are used to. Don’t plan on leftovers and the cost could be a little shocking to people who don’t frequent fancy establishments as this one. We finished dinner with one dessert that was split amongst the seven of us. It was the Lemon Layer Cake. It has just the right amount of tart to it and it was described as eating fluffy lemon clouds. Just a very delightful end to the dinner.

Very romantic quaint place. The ambiance just sets it off. The staff is ver knowledgeable and artistic ( especially the bartender) in what they do. The food ,we had the Tomahawk and House Charcuterie Board, impeccable. Not only was it melting in your mouth the flavors were devine. The food is all local the menus is never the same. I’ll definitely be going back. The best thing that I loved about this place were the other couples. They were so engaged, there no phones out and love was all around.

Simply put, Amazing. We went for our anniversary and on the printed out menu they put Happy Anniversary. Such a simple addition that made a huge impact. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairing. I highly recommend this. Every item was beautifully plated and tasted even better. We will be back!

I was really surprised to find one of the best restaurants I've ever try in downtown of Omaha ! If I could choice 6 stars il give all 6 stars 🌟 . All is good design , location is amazing , food is awesome, service is great, price is little high but really fair for the level of the food that you're going to eat here. The black Cod that I had was absolutely awesome, perfectly cook the skin was crunchy and the fish was so tender and juice and tasty... really good congratulations to the chef .

Really good celebratory meal. This is a terrific restaurant for an occasion. We shared the cheese plate as an appetizer. Plenty for two with the bread service. (It’s a little weird to pay for bread.) my pork chop was perfectly prepared, and the sauces and accompaniments were perfect. The dessert torte was lovely with freshly brewed decaf. Well done!

This may sound dramatic but it’s the honest truth - I had one of the best meals of my life here. The summer tart! The NY strip steak! Every last bite was delectable. And our server Jessica made the experience even better. Her thoughtfulness and timing were absolutely perfect. And the ambiance?? Don’t even get me started. The patio is just spectacular. I might have to come back to Omaha just to eat here again!

V. Mertz has been a favorite place of mine ever since I moved to the USA 6 years ago. I love their menu, and even though it changes, you are always there for a great surprise! The food is excellent every time. The atmosphere there is also very romantic and perfect for a date night. David is usually our waiter and he is amazing! He is always on top of things and even remembers the food we've ordered last time! He goes above and beyond and makes our experience at V.Mertz the coolest!
