The food was really good, but a bit overpriced. We all had the fillets, I had the wedge salad with blue cheese. I did not have a smokey old fashioned, tho I hear they are amazing.

We had our Rehearsal Dinner here this month and it was fabulous! We worked with Matt and Chelsea--they were both terrific! In fact, every staff member we dealt with from servers to bartenders to managers were friendly, very helpful and excellent at their jobs. We chose their second catering menu option which gave our guests a wide variety of choices for each course. Everyone loved their food. We also had a separate bar and cocktail hour before. The space in the loft was the best we found in downtown Omaha for the 42 guests we had. It was big, airy, pretty, and they allowed us to bring in any decorations we wanted. Plus they had wonderful screens to accommodate our video. Since our out of town guests were at the Marriott, it could not have been more convenient. Since I was from out of town, the attentive and knowledgeable help I received from Matt and Chelsea was invaluable. I most highly recommend this place for a private event. We also ate their twice before our event and loved our food and service!

This is a SIX star review. I wanted to get that part out of the way before I dive in to this review. My wife and I made reservations for J. Gilbert’s on Open Table, very easy process. We happened to arrive about 30 minutes early and the place was PACKED! We decided to go to another restaurant, that also happens to be a steak place, nearby for a quick drink while we waited. Our drink stop was not busy at all, my first clue that J. Gilbert’s was going to be a nice experience. We returned to J. Gilbert’s to check in and waited to be shown to our table. If I were to pick one nit it would be that the front end staff seemed a little disorganized but it could have been due to the rush of people on a Saturday night. We sat down at our table, the ambiance of J. Gilbert’s is very nice, perfect for a date, special occasion, or an upscale business meal. The aroma of the culinary delights ahead filled the dining room air, it was amazing. Patrick was our server, folks, Patrick is in the top 1% of servers in the nation. I don’t know if someone is actually keeping track, or if there even is a database, but if there was, he would be in the top 1% for sure. He knew the menu inside and out and his recommendations for drinks and cuts of steak were spot on. He was engaging and his sense of humor significantly added to an already great evening. The steaks were mouth watering. I had the Ribeye and my wife had the Filet, both were cooked to perfection, jam packed with flavor. Not to be outdone, the sides were also delicious. I had the Au Gratin Potatos, Brussel Sprouts, and my wife had the mashed potatos…everything, wonderful. To cap off the evening we had the fantastic Carrot Cake with some coffee, yum! We will be making a stop at J. Gilbert’s every time we are in Omaha from now on, guaranteed! Thank you Patrick for a job well done. GO BRONCOS!

One of my favorite places to eat. I get J Gilbert’s to go and eat in. Tonight I reserved a table for 10 to celebrate four different family anniversaries. Jackson, our server, was exceptional! He knew the menu and wine list like the back of his hand. He took his time making sure we all were taken care of. He’s been the best waiter I’ve ever had there so definitely ask for him! We had crab cakes, calamari, onion rings, shrimp, steak, scallops, salmon, lobster, and so much more and everything was cooked just perfectly and tasted amazing. We would recommend the smoked old fashioned, pineapple martini, and their oak barrel Chardonnay. You will not be disappointed in this meal or atmosphere!

I got the bone in rib-eye and my wife got the 3 course pre-fixe with a filet. The service was pretty good. The food would have been perfect, it just lacked salt… every single item was under salted: the steak, the mac n cheese, the potatoes. And of course the tables don’t have salt at them. The truffle butter helped add some seasoning to the steak. Overall good restaurant, just add some dang seasoning!! Update: We came back 10 months later. Food blew us away!!! Perfectly seasoned and cooked. I got the exact same thing, 18oz bone-in ribeye and my wife got the same pri fixe, but this time they added scallops to hers. We were both VERY pleased. They added salt/pepper to all the tables but the steak didn’t need it. Only the Lobster Mac needed a pinch of salt. Updated from 4 to 5 stars. We’ll be back!

Celebrated my 17th anniversary. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the service here. The prefix 3 course was delicious.

Had a fun time dining at J Gilbert's this past evening. Was one of three restaurants we chose to visit while staying in Omaha based on reviews and recommendations. It certainly didn't disappoint as I'm a fan of wood fired stove Steakhouses. It just adds a extra flavor to the food you eat. The restaurant is connected to the Marriott downtown, but it has its own street entrance on the South side. The interior of the place is very nice, has a bar area, few dining areas and a upstairs section. I also liked the fireplace alongside one of the inner walls next to the booth seating. The staff were extremely nice and friendly with us. Our server Amya was sweet and did a very good job. I recommend her! As for the food, it was very yummy. They start you off with Bread and butter like most Steakhouses. For appetizer we with the Meat and Cheese slate. It was fun guessing what all the food items were without looking at the menu. The main course meals were a Wagyu Burger with Yukon Mashed Potatoes, which was cooked medium and still very juicy yummy. I had the Bone-in Ribeye Cowboy Cut medium rare, with Lobster Mac and Cheese, Yukon Mashed Potatoes and the extra Grilled Bourbon Maple Shrimp. The steak was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor with the seasoning, easily my favorite of the meal. My next favorite was the Bourbon Maple flavored Shrimp. They were jumbo size and grilled beyond expectation. Extremely delicious. Lastly we got a complimentary Chocolate Red Velvet Cake to take home since we were too full to eat. It was yummy too! If we're back in Omaha again J Gilbert's will be on my list of restaurants to go to for sure.

We were with a large group, paid for by a supplier. Crab cakes have an amazing mango salsa, calamari was tender, shrimp cocktails were huge, and onion rings were amazing, and the house chips with some Bleu cheese and a warm melty cheese sauce were perfect. I split the 19 oz ribeye that was done perfectly medium rare. Wonderful side choices of lobster mac and asparagus, and I tried a scallop that melted in your mouth. 10/10 would eat there again. Creme brule for dessert was a very generous, yummy portion. I recommend the Silver Oak cabernet.

Impeccable service and incredible food! It was crowded on the 4th of July but I was able to make a last minute reservation. I was very impressed with the steak and asparagus as well as the carrot cake. I was concerned with the bad review of the carrot cake but I'm happy to say that person was either wrong or the chef made a change since then.

Been wanting to try this place for a while. We did start off by having our reserved party of 4 sat at a bar high-top which was a little irritating. We requested and got a new table though so no big deal. I ordered the Strip. Honestly wasn't a fan of the marinade/rub or whatever they used on their steak. It had an unappealing twangy taste I'm not accustomed to. The lobster Mac, crab bisque, and mashed potatoes were all phenomenal though! Will try something off the menus besides steak next time.
