Why are there fewer and fewer pets for adoption at CNHS? Obviously, there are not fewer animals needing rescued in a city of over 51,000 residents. I have to presume they are being euthanized. At one time this was the best shelter in the state, and was managed by a true animal advocate. Since her departure, much has changed, and not for the better. Very sad for our community and all the animals who need help.

I have contacted the state and city regarding the illegal activities going on at this place for rehoming dogs that are missing. IT IS ILLEGAL TO REHOME A DOG WITHOUT TRYING TO LOOK FOR OWNERS. Wonder what other illegal things they are doing here.

Hi my name is Samantha and when I spoke to a staff member on the phone for a specific dog they said I could come in and play with her to see if I wanted to adopt her and I loved her I wanted her so badly, the lady then told me a few things about this baby dog and I was terrified with leaving her there but I had no choice my landlord doesn’t allow animals but I needed this dog for an emotional support animal and I actually need her, so I went in and played with her and of course I wanted to adopt her but I couldn’t I then told the lady if I could come back tomorrow and adopt her and she said they couldn’t hold her but if she’s here tomorrow you can have her, there was one person there and he was adopting a husky and then left within me walking out those doors and going to my car I re checked the website and Aura the dog was taken off the site! This makes me upset and I get really attached to something I love/ like, I feel so bad leaving her but I had to discuss it with my landlord first and they are not open on the weekends! The people are friendly but I’m not sure they know how to do their job! They knew nothing about this puppy and they wasted my time coming an hour out to see a dog they told me would be available and I understand first come first serve but why did you give me paperwork and basically lie to me! I’m not sure if I’ll return!

Beware of the this place, they do not care to reach out if they find your pet even if you’ve contacted them regarding your pet going missing. They will rehome or euthanize your pet knowing your missing it. Absolutely disgusting.

I have had a couple of recent experiences with this shelter and have been greatly impressed with their care and concern for the animals. The negative reviews are not at all reflective of what I have observed, and a great number of them are more than 2 years old, when different leadership was in place. I am happy to support them in their current operations-- they are kind and caring, and truly want the best for the animals.

They don't know what abuse is for animals Animal control said my dogs was in their kennels when they saw them but truth is they weren't they make up stories in court and steal pets away from their owners this is not right

Me and my gf recently adopted an 8 yr old dachsund from this place. From the first phone call all the way to the end of the adoption these folks were kind curtious and deffinately cared about the animals. We originally came in to look at her and spent the manditory 30 mins with her even tho we could tell at first sight that this lil girl was the perfect addition to our family. Then we had to do the meet and greet with my current dog. He is a 12 yr old dachshund and came from a shelter himself. Whenever we take him to the vet or one of these institutions he is kind of sketchy cant blame him. The handlers did very well and even tho the dogs didnt get along great the asked us if we would like to do a second meet and greet. So we scheduled one for 2 days later just hoping and praying that she would still be there. When we went back the 2nd meet and greet with the dogs went well and we were able to adopt. Deffinatley would deal with this place again and all of the staff there were A+++

If I could give a negative star rather than a one star I would. My mom lost her two fur babies from Dannebrog on March 12th as of whom she loved immensely and immediately registered them as missing to Central Nebraska Humane Society and other locations in hopes that they would help return them home if found. She has been stressed out to the max since while searching endlessly as they were apart of our family. Recently, a dog that looked just like one of them was listed. Mom didn't recieve any call or indication that they had this dog that looked identical to one of her missing pups and she was adopted out to a new owner. She tried reaching out on their post on facebook and they blocked her from commenting any further. Truly disappointing and right before the holidays! I just want to say thanks for making my mom bawl her eyes out, lose sleep and throw up from the stress of the loss of her babies all over again! What a WONDERFUL way to celebrate the 4th!!!! Im truly disgusted and i hope nobody else ever has to EVER witness this or personally go through it. So very tragic & heartbreaking.

We found a dog there we loved. I called and ask if he was still there and the lady said yes. When we got there the dog was gone he got adopted hours before my call. The lady lied and told me he was there when he was not.

Staff obliviously do not do their homework with the dogs cause the dog we adopted was not good with high energy dogs. She became aggressive and wanted to fight. We did not get a refund even though we only had her a day and a half. Very miss represented by staff. They need training to evaluate the animals. Very bad experience. Wont adopt there ever again
